Denmark, and especially Copenhagen, is home to a substantial expat community, many of whom are from the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries. These expats find their way to Denmark for various reasons, including work, love or just to experience living in a foreign country. Adjusting to life in Denmark can be difficult for some who find the high taxes, unfamiliar culture and weather difficult to deal with. But often what these English-speaking migrants miss most from home is the food they grew up with.

Luckily, a British expat need not to go without the life-giving qualities of Walkers crisps, Jaffa cakes, Weetabix and Spam, just to name a few favourites. Shops and online services are available to provide the homesick and hungry expat with the nourishment he or she craves.

British Food Shops and Online British Food Services in Denmark

The best known place to find all your British and South African favourites is Abigail’s, formerly the British Shop, which is located at Peder Hvitfeldts Stræde in Central Copenhagen. While it may be a good deal smaller than the average Tesco’s, Abigail’s is well stocked with a selection of frozen, refrigerated and non-perishable food and drinks. Visitors to the shop can find a fridge full of authentic English cheddar and other cheeses, freezers stocked with sausages, pork pies and ready meals such as chicken tikka massala. Shelves are crammed with British teas, baked beans, dessert mixes and a large selection of British beers.
