Canadian Film Institute Ottawa
October 24 - British director Phil Mulloy's Goodbye Mister Christie won the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 2010 Ottawa International Animation Festival. The awards ceremony, held at Ottawa's Canadian Museum of Civilization, capped the festival, which claimed a record number of attendants this year. Mulloy was one of several UK animators to take home top honours from the festival, which ended at 7 pm this evening.
In his speech, OIAF artistic director Chris Robinson – who accepted the award on Mulloy's behalf – quoted a paragraph from Suite 101's review of the film.
"I think Phil would appreciate that," he commented.
British Directors Phil Mulloy, David O'Reilly Won Awards at Ottawa International Animation Festival
Another British animator, David O'Reilly, won the Nelvana Grand Prize for his wickedly funny short The External World. Based on the applause it received, it was clearly an audience favourite. O'Reilly, who had submitted a pair of short films to last year's festival, received a $3,000 CDN cash award as part of the prize.
