Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Information Technology
Over the past 10 years the role of the Internet has changed from a wide source of information to an indispensable resource. Cellphones have become an absolute necessity to man's daily life up to the point where one can't function without one without difficulty. But has society become too dependent on technology? What sacrifices are being made for this streamlining of one's daily life?
The Internet
In the 1960's the CIA stored crucial information on four computers located at various universities in the United States. A system was devised to link these computers so that one could access all the information from any of these universities. Once the Cold War ended, the system became available for other computers to log onto the system and exchange data. Long story short, the Internet was born.
Gradually the Internet became crucial to the daily lives of citizens. Man has reached the point where you can live an entirely secluded life with only the Internet to contact the outside world and not have need for anything. Food, clothing, entertainment, work, public services, all are available at the click of a button. Information sharing is another advantage of this, one can find information on any subject imaginable - and there is quite a lot to be imagined. The image of a world of knowledge at your fingertips has now been realized.
